Ayurveda Interview Part 3 - How to Add a Dash of Ayurvedic Wisdom to Your Day

Part 3 of Shann and Ananga's interview about Ayurveda and Anxiety

The image above shows a popular Ayurvedic method for soothing the nervous system. It's called shirodhara and it involves trickling warm sesame oil over the middle of the forehead. In this podcast Ananga runs through some of the ways she adds the wisdom of Ayurveda to her day and shares some simple things we can all do to support our health and emotional well being on a daily basis.

Shann: Can you describe a little bit about living an Ayurvedic lifestyle? And maybe give an example of the way that you choose to live, and the things that you do to support that lifestyle.

Ananga: Sure, I could run through my day. In Ayurveda there are guidelines for seasonal care where you balance yourself according to the seasons, because everything is changing around us all the time. We're not rigid structures and we need to be able to go with the flow. And then there's dinacharya which means your daily routine for protecting your health, nourishing your body, and looking after your mind.  Most people who are living an Ayurvedic lifestyle are practising this dinacharya, this daily healthcare regimen. But I should emphasise that since we're all very busy people, this is just a different way of doing things that comes from awareness and adjustment. It doesn't mean you have to add loads of extra things to your life that are impractical.

If you see a list of the daily Ayurveda recommendations you might think "oh my God I could never fit this in" and, therefore, Ayurveda might sound impractical.

So if I give you an idea of how I work my day according to what I've learned then you can see that  it fits into a good busy day, where I get plenty of other things done as well...

"He who constantly thinks of how his day and night are passing and adopts the right way of living will never becomes a victim of sorrow."

Interview: Ayurveda and Anxiety Relief part 1

Shann interviews Ananga about how Ayurveda can help relieve anxiety. Part one of four interviews.

Questions covered in part 1:

According to Ayurveda what causes anxiety?

What does Ayurveda have to offer someone who is suffering from an anxiety attack or an anxious moment when they’re at work, or out and about?

Are there any mental techniques or herbal remedies people can try?

When you’re trying to apply Ayurveda to yourself, how do you access the herbs and remedies that you can use personally?

Ayurveda is a very ancient body of knowledge - how does something that is so old relate to the anxiety and the stress that people get themselves into today?
