There are so many different levels of emotional pain. It can be sadness, or anger, or the intense emotions that dance around anxiety. Being with these feelings without pushing them away and understanding that it's okay to look at them and to be fully with them is all part of healthy processing. It's important to have somebody who can be a witness for you and support you, and it's important to have the help and tools you need to understand what you're going through and assist you in resting and recovering.
