Points covered in this episode:

Exploring different emotions

We tend to use the 6 basic emotions to describe how we feel: sad, angry, anxious/fearful, surprised, disgusted and happy. But our emotions can be mixed and more complex.

There can also be different degrees of emotion and the co-existence of emotions.

And then there are the subtleties of emotion to look out for. When we feel anxious, we can ask ourselves for more specific detail. For example: are we overwhelmed, or disappointed in ourselves?

These questions help us see patterns, and where we can seek support, or make changes to help ourselves. They also provide good insights for healthy scripts to use with EFT Tapping.

Working with the co-existence of anxiety and joy

We can be anxious and joyful. Knowing this and allowing space for both can help stop anxiety sucking the joy out of our lives.

We can be worried and grateful.

We can be sad and full of love.

Likewise, we can be anxious sometimes and still have a wonderful life.

We should no longer seek to overcome our pain, but to expand our joy.
— Dr David Frawley - Ayurveda and the Mind

How active gratitude helps

You can’t be in judgment and gratitude at the same time. Make it a practice to notice what you’re grateful for. From the smallest creature comfort to the sweetest wonder of creation.

Make a list of 5 things you’re grateful for now.

  1. warm socks

  2. sunshine

  3. buds on the trees

  4. kindness from a friend

Mind is a flow of thought. If you think fear then mind becomes fear. If you think anger then mind becomes anger. If you think happy then mind becomes happy. - C. Scott Ryan “Mind and the Basis of Psychology in Ayurveda.”
